Diarrhea

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is when you have loose, watery stools and need to go to the bathroom more often than usual. It can happen for a short time (acute diarrhea) or last longer (chronic diarrhea).

Common causes of diarrhea include:

  • Infections (like a stomach virus or food poisoning)
  • Eating certain foods that don’t agree with you
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Some medications

Diarrhea can make you feel weak and uncomfortable, and it can lead to dehydration (losing too much water). It’s important to drink plenty of fluids, like water or clear soups, to stay hydrated. If diarrhea lasts for a long time or is severe, it’s a good idea to see a doctor.
