Watery eyes

Watery eyes

Watery eyes, also known as tearing, happen when your eyes produce too many tears. This can make your eyes feel wet or cause tears to overflow onto your face.

Common causes of watery eyes include:

  • Allergies: Things like pollen, dust, or pet dander can make your eyes water.
  • Irritation: Wind, smoke, or bright light can cause your eyes to tear up.
  • Infections: Conditions like pink eye (conjunctivitis) can make your eyes water.
  • Blocked tear ducts: This can prevent tears from draining properly.
  • Dry eyes: Sometimes your eyes overproduce tears if they feel dry.

Watery eyes usually go away on their own, but if it’s a long-lasting problem or very uncomfortable, it’s a good idea to see a doctor.
